Rutland Stove Lining was manufactured by Rutland Fire Clay Co., Rutland, VT beginning in 1883. Many of its products originally contained asbestos, which gave them outstanding fireproofing qualities.

The Rutland Historical Society has published an excellent
 leaflet on the corporate history of Rutland.

The White Sewing Machine Company traces its origins back to Templeton, MA, where Thomas H. White founded the company in 1858.

They were both functional and works of art.
