"Maier Kaiser received a liberal education in Bavaria, and for three years clerked in a bank there. In 1853 he came to America, and shortly after land- ing went to California, where he was engaged in the clothing business for twelve years ; he also visited various other places. In December, 1865, he came to Waterbury, and from 1866 to 1871 conducted a men's furnishing goods store, in 1871 forming a partnership with J. Johnson, under the firm name of Johnson & Kaiser, the well-known pioneer clothiers of the city. In 1896, he took up his present in- surance and steamship ticket business, in which he is meeting with excellent success."
